Save files are not guaranteed to be preserved.

For many older games, replacing the battery can erase the existing save file. Some Game Boy Pokémon games and other titles may have advanced methods that can sometimes preserve saves, but this is more difficult and still not guaranteed.

If your save file is important to you, please tell us before the battery replacement. We can explain what may or may not be possible.
